For our membership meeting on August 15, we were welcomed at the home of Catherine Schoenherr in Woodbury, the location of the Walker Art/Fritz Haeg Edible Estate #15 project. Member Cherie Peterson shared hosting duties and served a delicious lunch of salad, beverages and the Sausage Sister's Italian Chocolate Dessert Salami.
The garden was installed in 2013 in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Walker Art Center Sculpture Garden. The Walker hired artist-in-residence Fritz Haeg to create these edible estates and help families turn their front lawns into lush, organic gardens. Catherine explained that theirs has become a community garden and that the neighbors help in weeding and harvesting. The garden includes vegetables, berries, grapes, hazelnuts, Arctic Kiwi and much more. Theirs also includes a brick oven which is employed by her husband, a bread baker, and used for neighborhood pizza nights.
