Come on out to the urban farm and help Urban Ventures celebrate 30 years of serving the south Minneapolis community!
Learn from WWRC member Sarah Spiegle, who has been serving the Urban Ventures mission to educate kids, strengthen their families and build healthy communities for more than 18 years!
Sarah Spiegle, Events & Volunteer Manager, has been involved with Urban Ventures for nearly two decades! What started out as a volunteer opportunity soon turned into a full-time profession, where she's been in her current role for 12+ years. Sarah's degree in Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism Management has been a guiding force helping her plan up to 1,000-person fundraising events for Urban Ventures, as well as managing both individual and group volunteer opportunities for the organization.
Fun Fact: Sarah also has a side “hobby Instagram account" @girl.abouttown, where she shares stories about events, experiences, food + drink spots that she's trying in and around the cities! Give her a follow!
At this meeting, we will learn about the incredible work Urban Ventures does to address opportunity gaps in academics, nutrition, physical activity, parenting resources and more, all with the overarching goal to prepare and send every youth in their neighborhood to college or some type of post-secondary education.
We will also hear from the Food, Farm, & Nutrition Director at Urban Ventures, Mark-Peter Lundquist, who leads the farm & nutrition program, working to address the food insecurity that the south Minneapolis community experiences daily.
Urban Ventures provides cooking and nutrition classes for youth, employs high school students to learn about farming first hand and runs a weekly farm stand for the community in the summer months.
Coffee will be provided by Urban Ventures’ very own coffee company. Meeting will take place on the urban farm, so be sure to dress for the outdoors!
