WWRC October Meeting: Shannon Richter & Lisa Patrin @ From Scratch Baking

  • From Scratch Baking 530 West 79th Street Chanhassen, MN, 55317 United States (map)

Join us for a fun fall afternoon at From Scratch Baking & Coffee, nestled in the heart of Chanhassen!

Nibble on baked goods and sip on warm beverages while we hear from co-hosts, Shannon Richter and Lisa Patrin, about how they each channeled their passion for food into unique and inspiring careers in the food industry.

You can even make a day of it - enjoy the fall foliage at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum just down the road or finish off with a happy hour at The Tequila Butcher a few doors down!

Shannon Richter, the owner of From Scratch Baking, brings her lifelong passion for food and baking to the local food scene. In March of 2021, she purchased Paragon Bakery in Chanhassen and made it her own, renaming it From Scratch Baking to highlight the bakery’s commitment to making the best products possible with high quality ingredients.

A California native, Shannon has been known for experimenting in the kitchen from a young age. After graduating from Duke University in North Carolina, rather than pursuing a corporate job, she returned to Los Angeles to work as an assistant pastry chef in an upscale Beverly Hills restaurant. There, she learned about the field of food science and became inspired to learn more about it. She earned a masters degree in food science at Kansas State University and her Master Baker certification from the American Institute of Baking. Shannon later went on to work for Pillsbury in Minneapolis as a food scientist developing baked goods. Shannon also received a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota, setting her up for success as a future entrepreneur.

Shannon is now a proud female business owner and leader, creating a work culture based on camaraderie, innovation and quality products - made fresh daily, and always from scratch!

A Chanhassen native, Lisa Patrin is a recipe creator, food writer, and global traveler.  Lisa’s background includes a variety of culinary experiences including food writing for local magazines, recipe development, event planning for a Parley Lake Winery, and more. She is the author of the super creative Eat Your Words: 125 Food & Beverage Themed Puzzles for Hungry Minds, a compilation of culinary puzzles that appeared weekly in the Minneapolis Star Tribune Taste section.

She now authors a food blog, The Empty Nesters Kitchen where she shares her passion for travel and food to ignite the fire of adventure for other empty nesters. She also highlights local restaurants, farmers, and food producers, and brings attention to important sustainability and food justice issues both locally and globally.

In this inspiring meeting, learn more about Shannon’s journey to becoming a successful business owner and Lisa’s path to becoming a published author and global traveler - we’ll even get to hear about her recent culinary adventures in Japan!
